An Open Letter to the First Minister and Cabinet of the Welsh Government

A collective statement from voluntary and community organisations across Wales to the new Welsh Government, calling for partnership, recognition, and action.

Addressed to:

First Minister and Cabinet of the Welsh Government

To the First Minister and Cabinet — Greetings from Community Wales

We write to you as leaders of community and voluntary organisations working across Wales, representing diverse communities, causes, and constituencies.

We welcome the new Welsh Government and acknowledge the ambitions set out in your first 100 days plan — particularly the commitments to human rights, ending violence against women and girls, crime prevention, welfare reform, and strengthening Welsh culture and language.

These ambitions reflect much of what our communities have called for. But ambition must be met with partnership. Wales has a rich, active third sector that works every day where government policy meets real life. We are not observers of change. We are agents of it.

We formally request an early introductory meeting between the new Cabinet and representatives of our organisations, to begin a genuine ongoing dialogue — ensuring that the policies you design are shaped by the people who live them.

People across Wales want bills to come down, decent food on the table, a secure home, reliable healthcare, and for their children to have a fair opportunity to build a future worth striving for. They are not asking for very much. That is exactly why we must get this right.

Wales has a genuine opportunity to lead — on rights, on inclusion, on community-centred governance. We want to work with you to seize it.

We look forward to your response.

Signed on behalf of the undersigned organisations.

Yours in solidarity, — The undersigned community and voluntary organisations of Wales
